Sue Holt Getterman: A Legacy of Service, Scholarship, and Stewardship
Sue Holt Getterman, a 1950 Baylor University graduate, has devoted her life to uplifting Baylor and the Waco community through leadership, philanthropy, and faith-driven service. Alongside her late husband, Louis “Theodore (Ted)” Getterman, she built a legacy rooted in generosity and vision that continues to transform lives across generations.
At Baylor, Sue served on the Board of Regents from 2001 to 2010 and was later named Regent Emerita, a reflection of her enduring influence on the university. Together, the Gettermans established scholarships and endowed programs across disciplines including business, music, religion, and education. Their commitment to advancing opportunities for students is most visible in the Getterman Scholars Program in the Honors College, which provides full scholarships to exceptional undergraduates. The couple also made a landmark contribution to women’s athletics through their support of Getterman Stadium, now a cornerstone of Baylor Softball and a national symbol of investment in women’s sports.
Beyond the university, Sue Getterman’s impact extends deeply into Waco. She has championed community health, education, and civic life through her involvement with organizations such as the Junior League of Waco, United Way, and the Waco Girls Club. The Ted & Sue Getterman Wellness Center at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest stands as a testament to their enduring dedication to community well-being.
Guided by humility and Christian conviction, Sue has described her giving as “meeting an unmet need” — whether or not she shared a personal connection to the cause. Through her generosity, vision, and unwavering faith, Sue Getterman has built a legacy that enriches both Baylor University and the city of Waco — one defined by compassion, opportunity, and love in action.
